Sometimes the best solutions are the ones built specifically for how you live - not pulled off a shelf. This customer needed a way to secure their deck without making their dog feel locked out of the world. So that's exactly what we built around.
We built a solid wood gate fitted right into the existing deck railing. It latches securely, swings cleanly, and keeps the space contained. But the real detail here is the cutout window built right into the lower panel - sized just right for a dog to stick their head through and take in the view. Practical and genuinely fun at the same time.
The framing is tight, the hardware is heavy-duty, and the whole thing is built to hold up outdoors through whatever the seasons throw at it. No flimsy hinges, no gaps that warp open over time. This is the kind of addition that just works, every single day.
Custom carpentry on a deck isn't always about big builds. Sometimes it's one well-made piece that ties everything together and solves a real problem. That's what good finish work does - it fits the space, fits your life, and looks like it was always supposed to be there.
